Vuonna 1994 Suomessa oli edelleen hyvin aktiivinen elektronisen musiikin scene. Pääsääntöisesti viikottaiset tapahtumat ja klubit keskittyivät enimmäkseen soittamaan trancea ja teknoa. House-musiikin rintamalla valintaa ei ollut yhtä paljon. Muutamasta aktiivisesta klubeista tutuin itselleni oli Helsingissä Hotelli Presidentissä toimiva Hype-Club, jossa tuli käytyä viikottain. DJ:t Mad Jay, Jokke ja Rale soittivat takuuvarmoja hittibiisejä ja ”speccuja” enimmäkseen housen puolelta vaikka loppuilta yleensä kääntyi nopeamman ja melodisemman trancen puoleen.
Näin vuoden vaihteen 2026 kunniaksi pistetään miksaus, joista jokainen kappale on jo kohta lähes 30 (!) vuotta vanha. Itselleni tätä miksausta oli mukava tehdä ja toi todella paljon muistoja kappaleista, joita ei kaikkia ole kuullut pitkään aikaan. Monia hyviä klassikoita jäi myös pois tästä setistä, joten ehkä jossain vaiheessa sitten työn alle vielä volume 2.

Nyt tulille Mark Spoonin, Jam El Marin ja DJ Dagin artistimiksaus Jam & Spoonin, Dance 2 Trance ja Peyoten merkeissä. Itse tätä miksausta oli kyllä todella siistiä tehdä, huikeita vanhoja kappaleita, tiukkaa trancea, jossa viimeisien biisien biiitit huitelee reilusti yli 150bpm.
Jos täällä on sen verran vanhempia foorumilaisia, joille Hype Club ja Screen ovat tuttuja, niin seuraavana tulossa uudeksi vuodeksi näitä klubeja kunnioittava house-miksaus.

Opossium 007 - Limbo Records Tribute Mix
In the early 1990s , when trance was born, there were a lot of good new trance labels and then there was Limbo Records. The record company that brought us progressive house. The tight and wet acid sounds were completely different from the traditional trance of that time. The set includes some tracks that were not possible to find, at least for me, before the time of the internet. The mixes on old C-cassettes usually were played without tracklists. With the internet, these songs could be downloaded to various tune-ID services. Probe - Rapid R was one of these releases. I was searching that tune for over 15 years before I even knew what song it was.
There are still a lot of active DJs playing from the era when trance was born. It would be amazing if they could bring up these old masterpieces more often and not always playing the same tracks in those classic sets.

Opossium 004 - Grace (Dominique Atkins) Tribute Mix
Grace (Dominique Atkins) and producers Paul Oakenfold and Steve Osborne, what else can be born from this combination but hits after hits. In my personal favorites, Grace was indeed one of the best early trance singers, along with Jan Johnston and Maria Nayler.
It was great to see Grace performing live somewhere in the mid-1990s on the Big Bang cruise from Helsinki to Stockholm. Can't find any hard facts about this event on the internet, but I'm pretty sure I was there!
